In lieu of the rather stressful lives that we are leading right now, I feel that it'll be great if we, as a class, can do something together. By doing so, we can bond the class better, help others, and also earn CIP hours for those who are lacking the 12 hrs, or who want to do more stuff to gain experience and cherished memories.

The following have been SMB-ed. So if you're interested, do leave a tag and I think others will join you too! If not, erm, there's still me. But that's beside the point. The bottomline is choose an activity that interests you and I'm sure our classmates will support you enthusiastically too! Whee.

Activity 1: NDP 2009 Parade Volunteers.

Quite fun, the training are on Saturdays inclusive of the pre and actual parade shows. Quite enriching I must say. Good opportunity to meet new friends.

Youth Bank is calling for NDP parade volunteers. Please note that
interested participants will have to commit to 6 intensive training
sessions. Please find attached more details on when these training
sessions are, as well as more details on the sign up process.

Basically, all interested volunteers are required to log on to the
Youth Bank portal at www.bank4u.org to volunteer with “Volunteer
Ushers for National Day Parade 2009”.

On our college end, you will have to take the following steps:

1) Submit a yellow indemnity form to me, Mrs Long Yi Lin Dawn. Look
for my pigeonhole in the staffroom. You can obtain the yellow
indemnity forms from the general office reception. You must submit
the indemnity form to me, otherwise I cannot verify and credit you
CIP hours.

2) When you are done with the activity, remember to collect an
endorsement letter from Youthbank to certify that you have done the
activity. Endorsement letters must be submitted to me- put them in
my pigeonhole. The DEADLINE for submitting endorsement letters is 2
weeks after the event on the 9th Aug. That means, the deadline for
submission of the endorsement letters is 23rd August.

You don't have to apply on ISP to apply for this activity. Go
directly to the Youthbank website to sign up.

Activity 2: SANDsational Race 2009 Volunteer

One day event. Haha. Remember to sign up on SMB.

Ever thought about going to East Coast Park to have fun and obtain CIP
hours at the same time? Now here’s an opportunity for you to do just
THAT by joining us in SANDsational Race 2009!!

The Tiong Bahru CC Youth Executive Committee is looking for enthusiastic volunteers to facilitate the execution of
SANDsational Race 2009.

Date: 23 May 2009, Saturday
Venue: East Coast Park

About SANDsational Race
2009
Targeted at youths, SANDsational Race 2009 is an unique "amazing race"
style competition on BIKES which aims to bring out the vibrancy and
sporting spirit in participants as they attempt both physically and
mentally challenging activities at various checkpoints throughout the
race. This event is proudly supported by Singapore National Olympic
Committee and the Singapore Sports Council in celebration of the
coming Singapore Youth Olympic Games 2010.

What you'll be doing as a volunteer!
As a volunteer, you’ll help in facilitating the various tasks and
activities at assigned checkpoints, and ensure the smooth running of
the event by providing assistance to participants when required. All
volunteers are to attend a briefing session to be conducted prior to
the actual event, the exact date will be made known to volunteers at a
later date.

So what’s in for you?
You’ll be given an event t-shirt, a special certificate of
appreciation, and breakfast and lunch will be provided on the actual day!

Activity 3: The 100km OAC Bike hike.

Fun activity for us to take up. Get to explore Singapore on bike, down Orchard Road, etc. It is at night, which makes it even more fun! Whoo.

“Project Speedway – Velocity Redesigned” is a 100km overnight cycling event around Singapore jointly organised by the 34th Hwa Chong OAC and Tiong Bahru Youth Executive Committee and supported by Singapore Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee’s (SYOGOC) initiative, Create Action Now (CAN!).

Date: 30th May 2009, Saturday
Time: 8pm (TBC)
Venue: East Coast Park
Registration deadline: 8th May 2009, Friday
Registration fee: $20 (incl. event shirt, bike rental, insurance and goodie bag)

Participants will get to cycle pass various landmarks in Singapore such as Singapore Flyer and Esplanade! The route will also cover shopping hot spots like Vivo City and Orchard Road! Project Speedway is an experience not to be missed as you discover that cycling is not merely restricted to the boundaries of parks and the constraints of daylights.
